UA Feature Request: Help Center

I would like to suggest the implementation of a "Help Center" section for Unity Answers, like StackExchange sites do. I think it would be great to improve users performance when using the site itself.

This "Help Center" would include, but not only limited to:

  • Unity Answers rules

  • FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) for new users, as well as for experienced ones.

  • Complete guidelines in order to post questions and answers:
    • On topic

    • Questions specific enough in order to be "answerable" (avoiding confusing ambiguitys, providing enough details for others users being able to give a suitable answer).

    • Answers as relevant for the question as possible.

    • As useful for the community as possible.

  • Tips to improve the redaction of questions and answers.

  • Guidelines to use properly the "comments" system.

  • In general, any kind of information that helps any kind of user to use this website properly, according to webmaster's policies.

Taking a look to StackOverflow's Help Center might help you to see a complete picture about the idea exposed here.

We already have that, except it's a year out-of-date, and was a work-in-progress back then. The biggest problem is if someone tries to ask how things should be updated, the very small number of people who respond have completely different opinions.

If you read the FAQ (right side of this page, 2nd item) it never mentions the HelpRoom area. It's over a year old. $$anonymous$$ost of the Qs it says should be rejected now go to the HR. Then, you can find a Q in the $$anonymous$$oderator Space where $$anonymous$$ods can't agree on what should be rejected from the HelpRoom.

Gidelines for the HelpRoom are a sticky, on the top of the HelpRoom area. That should probably be integrated into the HowToUseUA section better. And they are intentionally vague, since we weren't sure how it should be used.

The UserGuide (top of right column this page) is new for the current design of UA. But it looks boilerplate -- like it's explaining how dropdowns work to someone who's never used a forum before.

Thanks for yor comment. The FAQ section is indeed very complete and clear.

Also, as I read your comment, I realized that I might have posted my first question in the wrong place. Reading your comment makes me think that I misunderstood how to use the "Help Section", so I am considering to move my question to the "normal section." I read How to use the help room, which, based on my interpretation, looks like my question fits in there. But I am not sure at all, and it seems that the proper use of the "Help room" is still been discussed.

However, I think a "Help Center" concept goes beyond FAQ. I am aware it is not easy to create it properly, though. I wish webmasters and moderators succeed resolving the issues related to the outdated "Help Center".

If I can be useful in any way to "resurrect" the old "Help Center", I would like to help.

I'm a little confused. I wrote that the FAQ was NOT complete, and is wrong in places. You think I wrote the opposite?

Not at all. I just was trying to be kind, due to making a FAQ section and keep it up-to-date requires effort, after all.
