Question by jimm84 · Dec 01, 2021 at 06:54 PM · filecrashingimporting problemssound effectswav

Sound .WAV causes unity to crash or freeze on MacOS on import, copy paste - but has one .Wav file already in document

Hello! I was wondering if somebody would be able to help as I am VERY stuck.

So I have a project I'm working on in Unity. I have a single sound file already in there, but when I go to import more / new sound files it crashes unity and my project. To the point where I can't open my project anymore without deleting the sound file manually from the folder outside of the editor.

I'm a bit baffled as this is happening to all sound files I now try to import. Remember that I have a sound file already in there that works fine.

Technical spec : MacOS Catalina - Apparently most up to date Unity.

Software & Files :

  • using .wav files ( as was the previous file )

  • Unity + Adventure Creator ( AC works well )

  • Sound file is 202 kb

  • Stereo / same as previous

I'm not sure if this is something I am doing if there is a software compatibility issue or there is a key stage I should be doing to import the file ( tried standard import too, the same result).

Any pointers or help welcome. I feel as if I'm going around in circles.

As I have finally managed to work around what was causing these issues I felt that I should share my solutions. It wasn't one problem as such it was multiple. This is what I did with the help of another to fix the issues of crashing.

  1. ) Update MacOS. If you have not done so make sure your operating system is up to date.

  2. Make sure your Unity is 'actually' up to date. Now, this is interesting as according to what it said the updates in the 'help' section of Unity it said my Unity was up to date. ( image below, it shouldn't be 2017 ) **Make sure to back up your project before running updates!!!*

  3. Now if you are having a similar problem where unity isn't recognising the call for new updates. Go to the Unity website and re-download it if needs be along with the "unity Hub". It is through this now that you may need to run updates for the future.

  4. It is probably not essential for the sound files to work correctly but in my situation, i also updated AC from the asset store.

  5. Import your sound. Now to stress to test this I copied pasted the sound across. in a quick and mucky test! No crashing!

**The answer : make sure all of your tech software is all up to date**alt text
